Attendance & Punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality

At Holy Family we aim for 100% attendance and punctuality - it gives children the best possible start to life and ensures they are able to keep up with their learning.

Persistent lateness can significantly impact children's education, we would encourage all parents and carers to ensure that children arrive in plenty of time for a prompt start to the school day.

The school gates open at 8:40 a.m. and the register is taken at 8:55 a.m. Children arriving after that time will be marked late. At 9.30 am the registers will be closed. In accordance with the regulations, if your child arrives after that time they will receive a mark that shows them to be on-site, but this will not count as a present mark. It will mean they have an unauthorised absence.

Absence

If your child is absent from school for any reason, please remember that we need some form of official notification.

The best way to do this is to phone the school office and we would ask that all calls to report absence are made before the start of the school day or as early as possible in the day. A verbal message from your child will not be accepted.

It is worth remembering that children constantly absent from school without good reason are, generally speaking, less likely to succeed in life than those with a good attendance record.

Leave of Absence in Term Time

We do not authorise any holidays during term time. There is no automatic entitlement in law to time off school to go on holiday. All applications for leave in exceptional circumstances must be made in advance and are sanctioned at the discretion of the Headteacher. In making a decision, the school will consider the circumstances of each application individually, including any attendance concerns.
